About Massage and Bodywork
How Can Massage Help Me?
Our emotional dispositions often manifest physically. We see this in defensive, guarded postures with hunched shoulders, or proud and aggressive postures where the chest is puffed out and the shoulders are drawn back. Any habitual, prolonged, or repetitive posture can contribute to the development of what are called tension patterns.
Tension patterns are caused by a series of muscles compensating for awkwardly balanced weight. This is often a postural issue, a common example of which is an office worker leaning in too close to their monitor. It is common in such situations for an individual to experience neck pain, lower back pain, radiating pain between the shoulders, headaches, muscle cramps and even spasms.
Tension patterns can also be caused by injuries. A runner who has developed a knee injury will tend to favor a leg, which causes the musculature in the body to respond differently with each step taken. A neck injury will often cause an individual to raise their shoulder to compensate. Compensation like this affects every muscle in the chain. If left untreated an individual is sure to experience limited range of motion, stiffness, and muscle pain. They feel "locked up". And worst of all, after it begins, the tension pattern reinforces itself. The muscles just can't let go on their own.
Bodywork, including massage and energy therapy, is indispensible in cases like these. An outside force acting upon a tightened muscle can teach it to relax. With regular work and training, a healthy new pattern develops, freeing the individual and allowing them to live richer, fuller lives. Schedule your appointment now.
Injuries Over a Lifetime
Physical problems we experience, like pain and limited range of motion, is often a result of accumulated muscular scar tissue. This is common for those who play sports or carry out repetitive tasks on a regular basis.
In these cases I normally recommend a combination of Deep Tissue Massage and Myotherapy, both of which helps to lengthen muscle tissue and restore functionality. I take your recovery personally—schedule your appointment now.
